May Your Food Basket Never Empty
Posted in Gourmet Food Baskets on by ezviewMay Your Food Basket Never Empty is one of the late, great Dennis Brown\’s final releases. It was recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, and produced by his longtime friend and collaborator Flabba Holt. The liner notes accompanying the CD, explains Holt, are a message to Dennis Emmanuel Brown\’s family and friends and explain, with great clarity, certain events that took place during Brown\’s final days, illustrating the immense amount of love the artist put into his work once he settled down to create.
The pair set out to remake old standards as well as several of the Crown Prince of Reggae\’s best-known classics. A retooling of Just Another Girl suffers due to its timeworn, chauvinistic philosophy, but Money in My Pocket and Brotherman Unite are superbly rendered. Fittingly, the album closes with Joy in the Morning. As D. Brown croons My life is filled with so much joy, it\’s hard to believe he\’s left us. –Rebecca Levine more info
